Klaas Werumeus Buning
Klaas Werumeus Buning was trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. Because he settled in Friesland, he came under the strong influence of colleagues who had done their training at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. The rural surroundings of his studio are also of great influence on his painting.
Werumeus Buning’s style moves between extremes. A broad, majestic landscape belongs to his vocabulary just as much as a tenderly painted detail of a flower. Attention to the small and feeling for the monumental come together in an innate love of nature by the farmer’s son, Klaas Werumeus Buning.
This subject matter of his is as many-sided as life itself. Striving for an expression of his continual wonder, he constantly takes us aback by a different staging, a close-up fragment, an unexpected detail or another artistic angle. That makes his painting into an exciting quest where smoothly trodden paths are carefully avoided.
